Handbook of Brockville History 
The Comstock info seems off. He married Josephine Flint, daughter of Billa Flint. Billa owned the land where the Comstock building was built and Josephine inherited a great deal of money and real estate in Brockville and Morristown. I think her money then flowed to WH Comstock and his business built from there.
Yes, you are right, Curt, about the last name of Comstock’s wife being Josephine FLINT not “Elliot”. I had not considered before if any of the money from the Flint estate went into the Comstock business. This is probably true. Mrs. Comstock was born in 1840 and died 28 JAN. 1890. I believe they had 5 children.
The old book that I took this picture and article from could have done a better job on fact-checking, but I didn’t notice the mistake, myself.

I love your website. You have put so much work into it.
I’m wondering if Eliza Harvey was really a Hervey. If so, was she the older sister of Robert Hervey who was involved in several business initiatives in the United States after growing up in Maitland. His father was Robert Hervey (immigrated from Scotland) as well. I believe sarah Glassford was Robert Hervey’s wife.

You are correct about the ‘Hervey’ family. I am aware of the spelling and try to use it. There may be a problem in how the family pronounced their family name, and ‘Harvey’ gets written down. The family is well represented in the history of Maitland, written by Richard Dumbrille and Stephen A. Otto.
— You are referring to Eliza (Hervey) Jones, Mrs Chilion Jones. I know she was born on 24 DEC 1837 and died 6 APR 1903. Their home known as ‘Belvedere’ was located in the eastern outskirts of Brockville. The building still exists as an apartment.

Rick: I just checked the reference to Eliza (Hervey) Jones and see that it was not me who misspelled her family name.
— We have to blame S. Lynn Campbell and Susan L. Bennett who were hired to write her biography in the Dictionary of Canadian Biography. They also misspelled her mother’s name. It should be ‘Glasford’ , with only one ‘s’.
Doug: Have just found your work — quite remarkable, and worthy! I am a direct descendant of the Bowie/Gardner families from the late 1800’s up to the mid 1900’s. In fact, we still have a Bowie Brewery cork screw opener, and a photo of the Bettys Milk can, with my mother — Elizabeth Bowie Gardner, being the photo shot used on the can! Nice to see your work!! Her grandpa was Robert Bowie. Betty married Wilfred Binch and moved to Toronto in the early ’30’s. My sister was named Martha Bowie, so the names carry on, and now one of our granddaughters is Elizabeth Bowie Myers!
